The city of Pisa is famous throughout the world for its leaning tower, but it also offers much more to visitors. Founded in Roman times, the city has a rich artistic and cultural heritage which can be admired in numerous museums and churches.
The Piazza dei Miracoli, with the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, is certainly the main attraction of the city, but the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Baptistery and the Monumental Cemetery are also worth a visit.
The historic center of Pisa, crossed by the Arno river, is characterized by a medieval and Renaissance structure, with narrow streets and lively squares. Among the attractions not to be missed are the Palazzo della Carovana, the Palazzo Blu and the National Museum of San Matteo.
Pisa is also a lively university city, with a wide choice of clubs, bars and restaurants, where you can taste traditional Tuscan cuisine and the famous local wine, Chianti.
