Viareggio is a city located on the Tyrrhenian coast of Tuscany, famous for its beaches, its carnival and its Art Nouveau architecture.
Founded in 1824 as a seaside resort, Viareggio quickly became a top-level tourist destination thanks to the beauty of its sandy coast and the presence of numerous luxury hotels and restaurants.
Among the main attractions of Viareggio are the promenade, where you can stroll among restaurants, bars and shops, the pine forest of Ponente, ideal for a walk or a bike ride, and the fish market, where you can buy fish freshly caught.
Viareggio is also famous for its Carnival, one of the most important events in Tuscany, during which the city comes alive with color and music, with parades of allegorical floats and costumed masks. The city is also an ideal starting point for visiting other cities in Tuscany, such as Lucca and Pisa, which are within easy reach.
