Descrizione:
COLLODI/PINOCCHIO PARK-3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS
A weekend for couples, friends and families to discover PESCIA, a city of medieval origin, divided by the river in two urban areas: the religious one, with Saint Mary of the Assumption Cathedral, in which we can find the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and where the Madonna of the Baldacchino by Raphael was hosted in 2023, in the framework of the “Uffizi diffusi” project; and the civil one, with the municipal building that also hosts the “Libero Andreotti” gallery of plaster casts. Pescia is also famous for its flowers; in fact, it’s one of the most important horticultural centres in Italy. VALLERIANA, or SVIZZERA PESCIATINA, is the land of the ten CASTELLA, or villages: it’s located north of Pescia and it’s one of the most beautiful and peculiar areas of the Valdinievole, where the 10 small villages named as Castella are hidden among heights and ridges, immersed into oak and chestnut woods. These villages have a well-defined structure: in fact, they’re entirely built in pietra serena and protected by walls and watchtowers. PIETRABUONA is a small village where you can find the Paper Museum, which hosts actual treasures, from the historic watermarks to period instruments for the processing of handmade paper. MEDICINA is the second village; if you continue, you can find FIBIALLA and ARAMO, a fascinating village with houses huddled together and steep stairs
SAN QUIRICO is one of the most fascinating villages of the Valleriana and offers a sight of the valleys. Going down we reach CASTELVECCHIO, a village of medieval origin, and we continue towards STIAPPA. PONTITO has a curious triangular shape. If we go back and follow the main road we reach SORANA, hometown of the IGP bean. The final stage is VELLANO, the recognized capital of the Svizzera Pesciatina, which stands in a panoramic position on the valley of the river Pescia, where there’s the last operating pietra serena cave in the province of Pistoia. COLLODI is a medieval village, bound to the author Carlo Lorenzini who wrote the fairytale of Pinocchio. You can find the namesake park, where the characters of the famous fairytale come to life thanks to the sculptures by important masters of the XX century; Villa Garzoni, with its spectacular XVIII century garden, the tropical greenhouse and the butterfly house (butterflies can be seen from March to November).
